Desensitization Therapy The schedule of injections in the box is just a guideline. The amount of the injection and the frequency of the injections will be determined by how your dog reacts to the injection. If your dog itches more in the first 24 hours after an injection, for the following injection you should go back to the previous dose and repeat that 2 more times before trying to increase the amount again. Some dogs may never be able to receive more than 1/2 ml of the second, more concentrated vial. Only after finding the maximum amount that your dog can tolerate, do you then begin to decrease frequency. If your dog starts to itch more just before the next dose is due, you should change the schedule to 1 or 2 days before his itching begins. For instance, if he is supposed to get his shot in 14 days and he starts to itch at 12 days, go back to giving injection every 10 days for 2 more times before attempting to go back to 14 days again. Many dogs need their injection every 2 to 3 weeks instead of a full 4 weeks. Please feel free to contact us with any questions and we will be glad to guide you through this. |
